The archaeological site of Gradac near Posušje is a significant center for researching the transition from antiquity to the early Middle Ages. The complex includes the remains of a Roman fortification and an early Christian basilica built on the foundations of earlier settlements. Excavations have uncovered the floor plans of religious buildings dating from the 4th to the 6th centuries, documenting continuous spiritual use. Additionally, medieval Stećci are located nearby, emphasizing the site's long-standing sacred importance. Findings of coins, ceramic shards, and tools provide insights into daily life and trade within the hinterland of the Adriatic coast. As a protected cultural monument, Gradac is a key site for understanding the Christianization of western Herzegovina and the administrative structure of the Roman province of Dalmatia.
