Jablanica Hydroelectric Power Plant (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The Jablanica hydroelectric power plant is a monumental masterpiece of Yugoslav engineering and remains a cornerstone of renewable energy generation in Bosnia and Herzegovina to this day. Completed in the 1950s, the project required the damming of the Neretva River, creating the photogenic, artificial Lake Jablanica (Jablaničko jezero) with its impressively rugged coastline. The power plant itself features a massive arch dam, inside which giant turbines convert the kinetic energy of the impounded water into environmentally friendly electricity. As an integral part of the Elektroprivreda BiH system, the Jablanica power plant plays a crucial role in stabilizing the national power grid, especially during periods of high peak loads. The landscape created by the reservoir has also developed into a major attraction for tourism in northern Herzegovina.
