Vran Mountain is a prominent karst massif within the Blidinje Nature Park, located in the border area between Herzegovina and Central Bosnia. The name 'Vran' (Raven) likely derives from the mountain's dark appearance during inclement weather. Its highest peak is Veliki Vran, reaching 2,074 meters, offering extensive views over Blidinje Lake and the neighboring Čvrsnica massif. Geologically, the mountain is characterized by rugged limestone cliffs, deep sinkholes, and extensive scree slopes, typical of the Dinaric Karst. The flora includes rare alpine species and the endemic Bosnian pine (Pinus heldreichii), which has adapted to the extreme weather conditions. Due to its exposed location, strong winds are frequent, keeping vegetation in the summit regions stunted. The mountain is a significant destination for alpinists and ski tourers and hosts diverse wildlife, including chamois and golden eagles. The preservation of mountain pastures is of cultural and economic importance for local sheep farming.
