Mijat's House, known locally as Mijatova pećina, is a legendary site in the Vran Mountain near Tomislavgrad, associated with the life of Mijat Tomić. Mijat Tomić was a renowned 17th-century hajduk leader who revolted against Ottoman rule and is celebrated as a folk hero in local folklore. The site is actually a natural cave that served as a secure hideout and base of operations for Mijat and his men. Its location in the rugged terrain provided protection from pursuers and allowed the hajduks to overlook the Duvanjsko field. Mijat Tomić was killed in 1656 due to betrayal, but his story survives in numerous epic songs and legends. Today, the cave is a significant site of cultural memory, frequently visited by hikers interested in the history of resistance in Herzegovina. The stark, rocky environment illustrates the harsh conditions under which the hajduks lived during their struggle.
