Kakanj Selo is a settlement within the Kakanj municipality, located in the Zenica-Doboj Canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Kakanj region has been recognized since the early 20th century as one of the country's primary industrial hubs, particularly famous for its extensive coal mining operations and cement production. Kakanj Selo is situated near the Bosna River and is deeply connected to the medieval history of the Bosnian state. Significant archaeological finds have been discovered nearby, most notably the Zgošća stećak, one of the most intricately carved medieval tombstones in the country, now housed in the National Museum in Sarajevo. The onset of industrialization in 1902 fundamentally altered the village's character, blending rural life with heavy industrial infrastructure. Despite this industrial focus, the settlement maintains its strategic importance along the major transport corridors connecting the cities of Sarajevo and Zenica.
