Schladming, once a significant mining town, is now the lively hub of the Schladming-Dachstein holiday region. The town is located between the Dachstein Massif to the north and the Schladminger Tauern to the south. It gained international fame through the Alpine Ski World Cup, particularly the legendary Nightrace on the Planai. The 4-Mountain Ski Swing connects the peaks of Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen, and Reiteralm into a seamless ski area with 123 kilometers of slopes. In summer, the region transforms into a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers with over 1,000 kilometers of trails. Local culinary highlights include the spicy Ennstal Steirerkas cheese served in alpine huts. Access is easy via the B320 Ennstal federal road or by train, with direct Intercity connections available.
