Ramsau am Dachstein lies on an 18-kilometer-long and 4-kilometer-wide plateau at 1,200 meters in Styria. Its location directly beneath the vertical Dachstein South Faces makes it one of Austria's most spectacular mountain villages. Ramsau gained fame primarily as a training center for world-class cross-country skiers and Nordic combined athletes. The trail network spans over 220 kilometers across the entire plateau, including night trails and special children's tracks. In winter, the glacier lift provides direct access to ski slopes at 2,700 meters. In summer, Ramsau is an Eldorado for climbers and hikers. With 19 via ferratas, the region is considered the cradle of climbing in the Alps. Highlights include the Dachstein Skywalk and the "Stairway to Nothingness," which guarantee thrills at dizzying heights. For families, Rittisberg is the main hub, featuring a summer toboggan run, a fairytale trail, and a swimming lake. Culinarilly, one should definitely try the "Ramsauer Steirerkas," a pungent cheese produced on local alpine pastures. Access is usually via Schladming, from where a panoramic road leads up to the plateau. Ramsau features sweeping views over the Enns Valley to the Niedere Tauern mountains.
