Vösendorf is a market town in Lower Austria, directly bordering the southern city limits of Vienna and belonging to the Mödling district. Geographically, the place lies in the Vienna Basin on a flat plain characterized by its location on the main transport arteries leading south. Historically, Vösendorf was first mentioned in the 12th century as Fesendorf. The architectural center of the municipality is formed by Vösendorf Castle, which today serves as the municipal office and cultural center and dates back to a medieval moated castle. However, Vösendorf achieved worldwide fame through the Shopping City Süd (SCS), which opened in 1976 and is one of the largest shopping centers in Europe by area. This economic giant not only shapes the landscape but is also the municipality's most important taxpayer and employer. Besides trade, numerous commercial and industrial companies have settled in the extensive industrial area. Despite massive commercial development, Vösendorf has preserved parts of its original character in its town center and through green spaces like the castle park. The demographics show a growing population benefiting from excellent transport links (Badner Bahn, A2 and A21 motorways). Vösendorf is a classic example of a surrounding community that has evolved from a farming village into a modern service and economic hub.
