Perchtoldsdorf is a traditional market town in the Lower Austrian district of Mödling, located directly on the southern outskirts of Vienna. The history of human settlement in the area dates back to the Neolithic period, with the town's first documentary mention occurring in 1140. Its most iconic landmark is the approximately 60-meter-high defensive tower, constructed between 1450 and 1521, which is regarded as one of Austria's most significant late-Gothic secular buildings. Adjacent to the tower are the late-Gothic parish church and the historic Perchtoldsdorf Castle, which currently functions as a cultural venue for events such as summer theater festivals. Economically and culturally, the town has been deeply rooted in viticulture for centuries, evidenced by the high concentration of traditional wine taverns known as Heuriger. Situated at the transition between the Vienna Basin and the Thermenlinie fault line, the town provides a high quality of life and extensive recreational opportunities on the edge of the Vienna Woods.
