The valley's inhabitants, the Yagnobi people, are direct descendants of the ancient Sogdians and have preserved their distinct East Iranian language over centuries. During the summer months, large herds of sheep, goats, and cattle are driven to the fertile high-altitude pastures, which extend to elevations of over 3,000 meters. What is this place?
The Yagnob Valley pastures are alpine summer grazing grounds for sheep and goat flocks of Tajik herders. They play a central role in the region's traditional transhumant livestock economy.
Visiting
The pastures are in a remote valley, reachable only on foot or with off-road vehicles. Visitors can observe herders' camps and flocks from afar, but direct contact is rarely possible.
Where to view it
A good viewpoint is the entrance to the Yagnob Valley, from where you can see the vast green slopes with grazing animals. Higher trails offer panoramic views of the entire valley.
Local products
In nearby villages, traditional dairy products such as yogurt and cheese are made from sheep and goat milk. Wool and felt products are also typical local items.

The pastures are used only in the summer months from June to September when herds move to higher elevations. The best time to visit is July and August when herder camps are in full activity.
