Sarvoda
Sarvoda is strategically located at the junction of the Dushanbe-Khujand highway and serves as an essential jumping-off point for expeditions into the Fann Mountains. Originally established as a mining settlement during the Soviet era, the town now provides travelers a final chance to restock supplies before heading into the untouched wilderness. The dramatic backdrop of rugged peaks and the rushing Fan River gives the place a raw, authentic Central Asian atmosphere. Visitors mostly stop here to hire 4WD vehicles for the steep ascent to Iskanderkul Lake or to explore the local bazaar, which is famous for its fresh mountain flatbreads and local fruits. The gastronomy is simple and nutritious, featuring traditional dishes like shurbo and plov designed for mountain life. The best time to visit is from June to September when the high passes are clear of snow. Sarvoda is easily accessible by shared taxi or private car from Dushanbe or Khujand.
