Due to the aging of its infrastructure, the plant is currently undergoing a massive modernization program supported by the EBRD, aiming to increase its capacity to 174 megawatts. The rehabilitation is expected to extend the plant's operational life by another 35 years and significantly enhance generation efficiency while addressing climate change resilience.
