Angren Coal Mine (Uzbekistan)

Weather…

The Angren Coal Mine in the eastern Tashkent region is the largest deposit of lignite (brown coal) in Uzbekistan and was developed during World War II. The mine operates using open-pit methods and extracts several million tons of lignite annually, which is primarily used to fuel the nearby Angren Power Plant. Estimated reserves of the deposit exceed 1.9 billion tons, ensuring energy supplies for many decades. In recent years, modern mining technologies from China and other countries have been introduced to increase extraction efficiency and improve working conditions. Angren is not only a mining hub but also an important industrial site for the production of kaolin and construction materials. The city of Angren owes its existence and economic rise directly to the development of this vast coal basin.
