Mali Jastrebac (Serbia)

Weather…

Mali Jastrebac is the southern extension of the Jastrebac mountain massif in central Serbia, located between the cities of Niš, Aleksinac, and Prokuplje. Its highest point is the Kupinjak peak, reaching 946 meters above sea level, making it slightly lower than the northern Veliki Jastrebac. Geologically, it is part of one of the oldest mountain systems in the Balkans, primarily composed of crystalline schists. The mountain is almost entirely covered by dense deciduous forests, with beech and oak being the dominant species, which highlights its significant ecological and forestry value. It is rich in freshwater resources, with numerous springs and streams originating on its slopes and flowing into the Toplica and South Morava rivers. Historically, Mali Jastrebac held strategic importance as a natural barrier between major regional basins. Today, the area is favored for hiking, hunting, and eco-tourism, with well-defined trails leading to viewpoints like Golemi Stol, offering expansive vistas of the central Serbian landscape.
