Lazarev Grad Fortress (Serbia)

Weather…

Lazarev Grad Fortress in Kruševac was constructed in 1371 by the Serbian Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović and served as the capital of his realm and a major strategic center in medieval Serbia. The complex was built following the model of Byzantine fortifications, consisting of massive city walls, a powerful central donjon, and a fortified palace complex. The most significant surviving structure within the walls is the Lazarica Church, a masterpiece of the Morava school of architecture, dedicated to Saint Stephen and built for the baptism of Lazar's children. The fortress was the gathering point for the Serbian army before the fateful Battle of Kosovo in 1389. Today, alongside the church, primarily the ruins of the main tower and sections of the defensive walls are visible, integrated into a dedicated archaeological park. The site is regarded as a symbol of late medieval Serbian culture.
