Veliki Jastrebac (Serbia)

Weather…

Veliki Jastrebac, at 1492 meters, is the highest peak of the Jastrebac massif, considered the most heavily forested mountain on the Balkan Peninsula. It is located in the heart of Central Serbia, south of Kruševac and northwest of Niš. The dense beech and oak forests are so extensive that they have been of great importance for forestry and nature conservation for decades. Geologically, the mountain range is very old, consisting of crystalline schists, which favored the emergence of numerous clear mountain springs and streams. The summit features an impressive panorama that, in good weather, extends to the peaks of Kopaonik and Šar Planina. Near the mountain lies the spa resort of Ribarska Banja, whose healing springs are often visited in connection with hikes up Jastrebac. The climate is typically mountainous with snowy winters and mild summers, making Jastrebac a year-round destination for nature lovers.
