Bijela Stijena, meaning White Rock, is a spectacular limestone formation and viewpoint within the Tara National Park in western Serbia. Standing at an elevation of approximately 1,230 meters, it features one of the most dramatic views of the Drina River canyon and the opposite Bosnian ridges of Zvijezda mountain. Geologically, the formation is composed of massive Mesozoic limestone, which has developed sharp ridges and deep crevices through karstification processes. Historically, this site was a crucial landmark for rafters who transported timber from the Tara forests down the Drina River. The surroundings of Bijela Stijena are enveloped in dense virgin forests of beech and fir, serving as a sanctuary for brown bears and chamois. The microclimate is humid and cool, encouraging the growth of mosses and rare fern species on the shaded rock faces. Today, the location is a prime destination for nature photographers and hikers seeking the untouched silence of the western Serbian highlands. The trails are well-marked but lead through challenging terrain that requires steady footing.
