Tara National Park (Serbia)

Weather…

Tara National Park in western Serbia was established in 1981, covering a mountainous area of approximately 19,000 hectares. It is renowned for its pristine wilderness, dense coniferous forests, and deep river canyons, most notably the spectacular Drina Canyon, one of the deepest in the world. A unique botanical feature of the park is the Pančić Spruce (Picea omorika), a living fossil from the Tertiary period found exclusively in this region. The fauna is equally impressive; Tara is home to the largest brown bear population in Serbia, as well as rare bird species like the golden eagle. The landscape is defined by rugged limestone formations, numerous caves, and crystal-clear mountain springs. Famous viewpoints like Banjska Stena offer panoramic panoramic views of Lake Zaovine and the Drina River valley. The park serves as a critical refuge for endangered species and is a premier destination for hiking, nature photography, and ecological research in Southeast Europe.
