💡 Tips
- Summer weekends get very crowded; visit on a weekday if you want a quieter experience by the lake or on the pontoon beaches.
- The water in the Drina river is incredibly cold year-round, so swimming is mostly confined to the warmer waters of Perućac Lake.
- Book the famous boat ride through the Drina Canyon towards Višegrad well in advance during peak season.
- The short Vrelo river (only 365 meters long) features a beautiful waterfall that flows straight into the Drina.
🍽 Food
Taste freshly caught trout at the restaurants located right next to the Vrelo river waterfall.
Served in riverside taverns, this rich stew is first-rate after a long day of boating on the lake.
The surrounding Arilje and Bajina Bašta regions are famous for raspberries; try local juices and cakes.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Browse small stands near the waterfall for postcards, magnets, and local fruit preserves.
A short drive away, you can find supermarkets, bakeries, and stores selling the renowned local BB Klekovača (juniper brandy).
Follow the path along the 365-meter-long river under the shade of old trees, a cool oasis on hot days.
Rent a floating cabin on Perućac Lake for ultimate privacy, waking up to the sound of water and nature.

Perućac is located in Western Serbia at the base of the Tara Mountain, right on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The village is famous for the Perućac Lake, formed by damming the Drina river, creating one of the deepest canyons in the world. A major highlight is the Vrelo river, dubbed the 'Year River' because it is exactly 365 meters long from its powerful source to the waterfall where it joins the Drina. Perućac is a hub for eco-tourism and water-based activities within the Drina Gorge. The most iconic sights in Perućac are the colorful floating rafts and houses on the lake, offering a unique stay in the middle of nature. In July, the village hosts the start of the Drina Regatta, Serbia's largest water festival. Fishing enthusiasts come here to catch the Huchen (Danube Salmon) in the cold Drina waters. The area is also a gateway to Tara National Park's hiking trails. Local restaurants often feature terraces directly over the Vrelo waterfall. Best visited between June and September for water activities, the village is a short 15-minute drive from Bajina Bašta.
