Povlen Mountain (Serbia)

Weather…

Povlen is the highest mountain of the Valjevo mountain range in western Serbia. It consists of three prominent peaks: Small Povlen (1,347 m), Middle Povlen (1,301 m), and Great Povlen (1,271 m). Geologically, the massif is composed mainly of limestone and serpentinite, leading to a rich hydrographic network. The rivers Gradac and Trešnjica originate here, with the latter famous for its spectacular canyon and as a nesting site for the endangered griffon vulture. A mysterious feature of Povlen is the 'Povlen Spheres,' natural stone globes that have inspired numerous local myths and legends. The mountain is covered with dense beech forests and vast meadows traditionally used for livestock grazing. Historically, the area was a site of strategic importance during the Serbian uprisings of the 19th century. Today, Povlen is a popular destination for hikers seeking solitude and untouched nature away from major commercial tourist hubs.
