Bombom (Mé-Zóchi) is the inland, hilly counterpart of the nearby Bombom suburb, located deeper in the Mé-Zóchi district at around 400 meters elevation and surrounded by mixed cocoa forests. Its setting in a slightly windswept hollow with constant airflow is well-suited for drying cocoa beans, which is why the village's small cooperative has supplied aromatic beans to regional chocolate manufacturers for decades. The harvest festivals in February and August are among the most spirited cultural events of the midlands: families ferment together, youth dance groups perform the dêxa-mantxa, and children roam the plantations in search of freshly cracked cocoa pods. Trails climb from the village to some of the district's most spectacular viewpoints, with vistas of Pico de São Tomé, Pico Cabumbé and the cloud forests of Obô Park, making Bombom (Mé-Zóchi) an authentic, low-key destination for nature-loving travelers.
