- Strong insect repellent is a must, especially when walking near the dense tropical vegetation.
- Embrace the slow pace of life; locals live by the motto 'leve leve' (take it easy).
- Carry light rain gear, as tropical showers in the inland forest areas can start abruptly.

Boa Entrada lies inland in the Lobata district of São Tomé and is regarded as one of the country's most impressive historic roças. Even the approach to the main building is an experience: the road runs along a famous avenue of more than century-old mango and breadfruit trees, at the end of which rises a giant Jequitibá tree, a natural monument about 40 meters tall and several centuries old. The roça itself was founded in the mid-19th century and was one of the island's leading cocoa and coffee producers. Today, families whose ancestors already worked here live in the former worker houses, the sanzalas, and preserve a strong cultural identity expressed through their own festivals, dance groups and cocoa-processing rituals. Boa Entrada is also an important center for the production of artisanal palm wine („vinho de palma“), tapped directly from the crown of the oil palm. Visiting Boa Entrada has an almost cinematic blend of tropical lushness, colonial architecture and animated present-day life.
