Jibreen Castle (Oman)

Weather…

Jibreen Castle, built in the late 17th century, is more of a fortified palace than a pure fortress. It was conceived by Imam Bil'arab bin Sultan as a center for learning and art. The castle is renowned for its magnificent interior decorations, especially the elaborately painted wooden ceilings depicting astrological motifs, flora, and Arabic calligraphy. The architecture is complex, with three stories comprising living quarters, a library, a madrasa (school), and defensive features. Unique are the 'Sun and Moon rooms', used for meetings during the day and night respectively. The Imam's tomb is located within the castle, underscoring his wish to be buried in his center of knowledge. Jibreen is considered one of the finest examples of 17th-century Omani interior design.
