Water temperature…
Mērsrags is located on the western coast of the Gulf of Riga and is a paradise for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility. The most prominent landmark is the Mērsrags Lighthouse, built in 1875, which is one of Latvia's oldest and most photogenic lighthouses. From its platform, you have a wide view over the Baltic Sea and the surrounding forests. The coast here differs from the sandy sections near Riga due to its wild, stony beaches and large boulders in the water. Another highlight is Cape Mērsrags, a place of raw natural beauty. In the immediate vicinity is the Lake Engure Nature Park, an internationally significant bird sanctuary. Here, visitors can hike on nature trails and observe wild horses and Konik ponies in their natural habitat. The town itself has a strong connection to shipbuilding, which can still be seen today in the old wooden captains' buildings. For tourists, Mērsrags has authentic guesthouses and the opportunity to buy fresh fish directly at the harbor. The region is handy for bird watching, especially during the migration seasons in spring and autumn. Access is via the P131 coastal road, about 90 kilometers from Riga. A visit is particularly worthwhile in summer for beach walks or in autumn for the impressive natural backdrop of Lake Engure.
