💡 Tips
- As the last major settlement before the Empty Quarter desert, Adam is the well-suited place to refuel and stock up on supplies.
- Explore the restored Harat Al Jamadi traditional mud-brick village, preferably in the cooler late afternoon.
- Do not take photos of locals, especially women, without asking for explicit permission.
- Renting a reliable 4WD is essential if you plan to venture further south from here into the desert dunes.
🍽 Food
Slow-roasted, spice-marinated meat cooked in an underground sand oven, available at local traditional restaurants.
A dense, sweet gelatinous dessert flavored with saffron and rose water, great to pick up in local sweet shops.
Traditional Omani coffee flavored with cardamom, invariably served with sweet dates grown in the local oasis.

Adam is a wilayat in the south of the Ad Dakhiliyah region with about 12,000 inhabitants, located about 220 kilometers south of Muscat on the edge of the Wahiba Sands on the way to Salalah. The city was historically an important caravan station on the connecting road between North and South Oman and is considered the ancestral seat of the Al-Bu-Said dynasty, which has ruled the Sultanate of Oman since 1744. Ahmad bin Said al-Bu-Said, the founder of the dynasty and vanquisher of the Persian troops in 1747, originally comes from Adam. The historic mud-brick old town, Hara al-Yaman, is a well-preserved example of traditional Omani architecture. About 50 kilometers south begins the central desert region, Al Wusta. Adam is the starting point for trips into the Wahiba Sands and the southern provinces.
