Jebel Akhdar (Oman)

Weather…

Jebel Akhdar, meaning 'The Green Mountain', is part of the Hajar Mountains and is famous for its unique Mediterranean-like climate in an otherwise arid region. This temperate climate allows for the cultivation of fruits like pomegranates, apricots, peaches, and grapes on terraced farms carved into the mountain slopes. The region is particularly famous for its Damask roses, which bloom in the spring and are used to make rosewater. The area is a plateau at an altitude of about 2,000 meters, offering spectacular views of the surrounding wadis and peaks. Hiking trails lead through abandoned villages and along the traditional aflaj irrigation channels. Due to its strategic importance and difficult access, Jebel Akhdar was a restricted area for foreigners until 2005. Today, it is a popular tourist destination, but access is only permitted for 4WD vehicles via a steep, winding road.
