Jebel Kawr

Jebel Kawr is a massive limestone mountain located in the Western Hajar range of Oman, situated near the prominent Jebel Misht. Reaching an elevation of approximately 2,730 meters above sea level, it is one of the most significant landmarks in the Ad Dakhiliyah region. Geologically, the mountain is part of the Hawasina complex, consisting of ancient seabed sediments that were uplifted during tectonic movements. The area is known for its rugged terrain, deep gorges, and hidden caves, attracting adventurous hikers and speleologists from around the world. Scattered across its slopes are remote mountain villages, such as Sant, where inhabitants continue to practice traditional agriculture on small, terraced plots. The vegetation at higher altitudes is sparse but unique, featuring hardy species like the Omani juniper and drought-resistant shrubs. Historically, the formidable terrain of Jebel Kawr provided a natural fortress for local tribes, and today it remains a symbol of the wild, untamed beauty of the Omani interior.
