Wadi Ghul (Oman)

Weather…

Wadi Ghul, known as the 'Grand Canyon of Arabia', is a spectacular gorge that cuts deep into the Hajar Mountains, located right next to Jebel Shams, Oman's highest mountain. The canyon is one of the deepest in the world, with its cliffs dropping vertically for up to 1,000 meters in some places. The view from the rim of the canyon is sweeping, offering a panorama of rugged rock formations and immense depth. At the bottom of the gorge lies the ancient village of Ghul, consisting of abandoned mud-brick houses. A famous hiking trail, the 'Balcony Walk', runs along the upper rim of the canyon, providing some of the best views. The trail is relatively flat and leads to the abandoned village of As Sab, which clings to the cliffs. The region is a haven for geologists and hikers looking to experience the raw and dramatic beauty of the Omani landscape. The drive to the viewing platform requires a 4WD vehicle.
