Saraj of Resen (North Macedonia)

Weather…

The Saraj of Resen is a magnificent neoclassical palace located in the center of Resen, constructed at the dawn of the 20th century. Built between 1904 and 1912 by Ahmed Niyazi Bey, a prominent leader of the Young Turk Revolution, the structure was architecturally inspired by French chateaus such as the Château de Chenonceau. The building is distinguished by its symmetrical facade, decorative balconies, and mansard roof, making it a unique example of Balkan architecture. Originally intended as a private residence, the palace now houses significant cultural institutions, including the House of Culture, a library, and a gallery for contemporary ceramics. The ceramic gallery is part of an international residency program that has established Resen as a regional artistic center. The Saraj is regarded as one of the most important architectural monuments from the transition period between the Ottoman Empire and the modern era. Surrounded by a manicured park, the palace stands as a proud landmark of the Prespa region.
