Baba Mountain Range (North Macedonia)

Weather…

The Baba Mountain range, also known as the Pelister massif, is located in southwestern North Macedonia and is the third highest mountain range in the country. Its most prominent point is the Pelister peak, standing at 2,601 meters. Geologically, the massif differs from other Macedonian ranges due to its massive granite structure, which was formed during the Variscan orogeny. Much of the range is protected within Pelister National Park, known for its rich flora and fauna, especially the rare Molika pine. The landscape is characterized by rugged peaks, extensive stone run formations, and two beautiful glacial lakes known as the 'Eyes of Pelister.' Historically, the range played a strategic role during World War I, with remains of trenches and fortifications still visible today. Today, the region is a major center for mountain sports, hiking, and skiing. Thanks to its proximity to the city of Bitola, the range is well-accessible to visitors and gives an excellent tourist infrastructure.
