Krusevo is the highest town in North Macedonia, perched at an elevation of approximately 1,350 meters above sea level in the Baba Mountain range. The town is a cornerstone of Macedonian national identity, as it was the site of the short-lived Krusevo Republic during the 1903 Ilinden Uprising against Ottoman rule. Architecturally, it is famous for its well-preserved traditional Macedonian-Ottoman houses that step up the mountain slopes. A dominant landmark is the Makedonium monument, which commemorates the struggle for freedom and national independence. Krusevo is also the birthplace and final resting place of the legendary singer Toše Proeski, honored by a modern memorial house. Due to its high altitude, the town has become a major center for winter sports and paragliding. Its alpine climate has cool summers and snowy winters, making it a popular year-round tourist destination.
