The Zlešti Monastery, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, is located in the scenic Debrca region near the village of Zlešti. The current monastic building was constructed in recent decades atop the remains of a significant early Christian and medieval site. Archaeological excavations have uncovered the foundations of a three-aisled basilica dating from the 5th or 6th century, along with remnants of a later 11th-century Byzantine church. These discoveries highlight the site's enduring spiritual tradition, having once served as a primary religious center along the route connecting Ohrid and Kicevo. The monastery is surrounded by dense oak and beech forests, providing an atmosphere of silence and contemplation. Every year on December 19th, the feast of Saint Nicholas, numerous faithful from the surrounding area gather for solemn liturgical services. The revival of the monastery serves as a testament to the preservation of cultural heritage within the Debrca region. For visitors, it represents a location where archaeological history converges with living Orthodox tradition.
