Timia

Timia is considered one of Niger's most beautiful oases, hidden in the valleys of the Aïr Mountains. The contrast between the rugged, dark volcanic rocks and the animated green of the gardens is spectacular. The inhabitants, mainly Tuareg, have developed a sophisticated irrigation system to grow pomegranates, citrus fruits, and grains in the middle of the desert. Access is usually by 4x4 from Agadez, a journey that leads through fascinating desert landscapes. The best time to visit is from November to March, when the weather is pleasant and the harvest season begins for many fruits. Traditional festivals and camel races often take place during this time.
