Ferizaj is a dynamic city in southern Kosovo, which rose to prominence in the 19th century following the construction of the railway line between Pristina and Skopje. Today, it is a major economic hub. Its most significant landmark is the religious complex in the city center, where the Great Mosque of Mulla Veseli and the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Uroš share the same courtyard. This setup is a famous symbol of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in the region. Technically, the city is world-renowned for the bifurcation of the Nerodimka River. This is an extremely rare hydrological phenomenon, the only one in Europe and one of only two in the world, where a river splits into two branches that eventually flow into different seas (the Aegean and the Black Sea). The site is located just on the outskirts of the city and is for nature enthusiasts. The city also gives memorable views of the nearby Luboten peak in the Sharr Mountains. Ferizaj is conveniently located on the main highway between Pristina and Skopje, roughly a 40-minute drive from the capital. The city features a lively center with modern cafes, shops, and a bustling local market. Spring is the best time to see the river bifurcation at its strongest, while the city's cafes are enjoyable year-round.
