Turul Monument (Hungary)

Weather…

The Turul Monument in Tatabánya is one of the largest bird statues in Europe, perched on the edge of Mount Kő overlooking the city. The massive bronze bird, a symbol of the Hungarian conquest and the Árpád dynasty, is home to a wingspan of 15 meters and holds a protective sword in its talons. Created by sculptor Gyula Donáth, it was inaugurated in 1907 as part of the millennium celebrations, although the completion was delayed by several years. According to legend, the decisive battle between Prince Árpád's forces and the Moravian ruler Svatopluk took place here in 907 AD. From the viewing area at the base of the monument, visitors can enjoy a panoramic panorama of Tatabánya and the Gerecse range. The statue has been damaged several times throughout its history but was fully restored in 1992 and remains a vital national historic site.
