The town of Polgárdi is located in the western part of Fejér County, midway between Lake Balaton and Székesfehérvár, and its name has been immortalized by the discovery of the world-famous Seuso treasure. In the 1970s, at the foot of the nearby Somlyó Hill, late Roman silver objects were unearthed, forming one of the most valuable treasure troves of the era, now a prized collection in the Hungarian National Museum. However, the settlement's history dates back much further; due to favorable geographical conditions, it has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and stood at the intersection of important military roads during Roman times. Key elements of Polgárdi's architectural heritage include the Neoclassical Reformed church and the Baroque Catholic church, which testify to the town's religious diversity and historical significance. Somlyó Hill served as a limestone quarry for centuries, with its stone used in numerous local constructions, establishing a tradition of stonemasonry. Today, the town's economy is built on industry and logistics, thanks to its proximity to the M7 motorway, while agriculture retains its importance on the fertile slopes of the Mezőföld region.
