Water temperature…
Velence is the namesake town of Lake Velence, Hungary's third-largest natural lake. Due to its shallow depth, the water warms up quickly in summer, reaching 26-28°C, making it a good destination for beachgoers. The Velence Korzó serves as the modern hub of the town, featuring a large sandy beach, various restaurants, and shopping facilities right by the water. The town is a haven for active tourists; the 30-kilometer bike path circling the lake is flat and first-rate even for beginners. Water sports like windsurfing, kitesurfing, and sailing are highly popular here. North of the town, the Velence Mountains offer interesting geological formations known as 'wobbling stones,' which make for great short hiking trips with scenic views over the reed-covered lake. Local gastronomy is complemented by the region's white wines. Velence is perfectly located on the M7 motorway and the railway line between Budapest and Lake Balaton, making it a favorite weekend escape for residents of the capital. The best time to visit is from June to August for swimming, though spring and autumn are excellent for cycling and birdwatching.
