Misahuallí
Misahuallí, often affectionately called Puerto Misahuallí, is one of the most accessible jungle settlements in Ecuador. It attracts tourists seeking a first authentic contact with the Amazon rainforest. The main attraction of the town are the cheeky capuchin monkeys that live in the trees of the main square and happily mingle with visitors. The town serves as a hub for river tours on the Río Napo. Travelers can visit traditional Kichwa communities, marvel at the giant ceibo tree, or take guided jungle hikes to learn about local flora and fauna. There are also photogenic sandy beaches on the riverbank for relaxation. The gastronomy tempts with exotic specialties such as maito (fish wrapped in leaves). Misahuallí is only half an hour from Tena. It can be visited all year round, but the dry season (August to February) provides lower river levels and more pleasant temperatures.
