Guayllabamba Zoo (Ecuador)

Weather…

The Quito Zoo, better known as the Guayllabamba Zoo, is located about 25 kilometers north of the capital city in a dry valley ecosystem. It opened at its current site in 1999 after moving from its previous location in downtown Quito. Spanning 12 hectares, the zoo is primarily dedicated to the conservation and exhibition of native Ecuadorian fauna. One of its most critical initiatives is the Andean Condor conservation center, aimed at protecting the national symbol of Ecuador. In its spacious enclosures, visitors can see harpy eagles, Galapagos giant tortoises, spectacled bears, and jaguars. Because Guayllabamba has a significantly warmer climate than Quito, it provides good conditions for species from lower altitudes. The zoo acts as a major rescue center for injured wildlife and places great emphasis on educational programs designed to teach local communities about the value of biodiversity.
