Archidona

Archidona gives a well-suited blend of colonial history, indigenous culture, and natural wonders. The city was founded in 1560 and is one of the oldest settlements in the Napo region. The highlight for adventurers is undoubtedly the Jumandy cave system. In these dark caverns, visitors can wade through underground rivers and marvel at massive stalactites. In addition, Archidona is an important center of indigenous Kichwa culture. Travelers have the opportunity to experience traditional shamanic rituals and purchase handmade crafts. Numerous rivers and waterfalls in the area invite you to swim and go rafting. Culinary-wise, the area has exotic experiences such as chontacuro (beetle larvae) and guayusa tea. Archidona is just a few kilometers north of Tena and is easily accessible by bus. A visit is possible all year round, but sturdy footwear and insect repellent are always mandatory.
