Sokol Fortress, also known as Sokol Grad, is situated on a prominent limestone ridge near the town of Gračanica in northeastern Bosnia. Believed to have been constructed in the late 14th century, it served as a vital stronghold for the Usora region. The fortress strategically overlooked the Spreča valley, controlling key trade routes and military approaches. In 1463, it was initially captured by the Ottoman Empire but was shortly after retaken by King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary. It remained a part of the Banate of Srebrenik until 1512, serving as a frontier defense before finally falling back into Ottoman hands. The structure is characterized by its defensive walls that follow the natural contours of the steep cliff. In 2005, the site was designated a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting its significance in the medieval history of the region.
