- Bring warm layers regardless of the season, as the plateau sits at a high altitude and evenings are notably chilly.
- Check local road conditions before traveling in winter, as heavy snow is common and roads might temporarily close.

Blidinje Nature Park is a unique high-altitude plateau set between the Čvrsnica and Vran mountain ranges in Herzegovina. The park is centered around Blidinje Lake, the largest mountain lake in the country, sitting at 1,184 meters above sea level. This protected area is famous for its vast forests of Bosnian Pine (Pinus heldreichii), an endemic species of the Balkans. A major cultural highlight is the Dugo Polje necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring over 150 medieval monolithic tombstones called 'stećci'. Hikers are drawn to the iconic 'Hajdučka vrata' (Outlaw's Gate), a natural circular stone arch formed by wind and erosion on Mount Čvrsnica. During the winter, the Risovac ski center provides family-friendly slopes. The park is also a gastronomic destination, where traditional mountain lodges serve authentic dishes like 'sir iz mijeha' (cheese aged in sheepskin) and hearty stews.
