Rama Lake (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

Rama Lake (Ramsko jezero) is a large artificial lake located in the Prozor-Rama municipality in northern Herzegovina. It was created in 1968 with the completion of a 103-meter-high dam on the Rama River to supply the Rama hydroelectric power plant. The lake is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the region, characterized by its indented coastline, islands, and peninsulas, most notably the Šćit peninsula. Šćit is home to a historic 15th-century Franciscan monastery which houses an extensive ethnographic museum. When full, the lake extends for about 12 kilometers and reaches depths of up to 95 meters. Its scenic beauty often draws comparisons to Scandinavian fjords, making it a popular destination for tourists and nature photographers. Beyond energy generation, the lake serves as a premier location for rowing training, frequently used by national teams from various countries. The fluctuating water levels often reveal dramatic and changing shoreline vistas.
