Klekovača is the highest mountain in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, located southeast of the town of Drvar. Its highest point, Velika Klekovača, stands at 1,962 meters. The mountain is famous for its dense and untouched coniferous forests, with its name derived from the dwarf mountain pine (Klek) that thrives in the area. Botanically, Klekovača is of immense value as it is one of the few places in the Dinarides where the rare Edelweiss (Runolist) grows on rocky ridges. The landscape features rugged limestone formations and deep sinkholes, typical of the Dinaric karst. Near the summit lies the Lom Virgin Forest (Lomska Prašuma), one of Europe's few remaining primeval forests, under strict protection since 1956. Historically utilized for strategic military purposes, the mountain is now a focus for ecological preservation and eco-tourism. Hikers are drawn to its challenging ascents and the wide views reaching as far as the Adriatic Sea and the peaks of central Bosnia.
