Drvar is a deeply historical and natural city located in western Bosnia and Herzegovina, situated in extreme isolation within a valley surrounded by dense, seemingly endless forests. It was precisely this immense wealth of timber that transformed the city into one of the most vital centers of the Yugoslav wood and paper industry during the 20th century. However, Drvar achieved immense nationwide historical fame during World War II due to the spectacular Operation Rösselsprung in 1944, when German paratroopers unsuccessfully attempted to capture partisan leader Josip Broz Tito at his hidden command center. The famous Tito's Cave (Titova pećina), dramatically located high up in the steep cliffs directly above the city, remains the undisputed main attraction today, drawing countless history enthusiasts. Despite industrial decline, the region now completely captivates with its untouched wilderness, crystal-clear rivers, and enormous, untapped potential for ecotourism.
