Krupa na Uni is a very small, heavily rural, and deeply peaceful municipality located in the extreme northwest of Republika Srpska. It was newly formed following the Dayton Agreement from parts of the formerly much larger pre-war municipality of Bosanska Krupa. The absolute main significance of this otherwise very quiet and secluded region lies entirely in its literary heritage: the small village of Hašani, which belongs to the municipality, is the revered birthplace of Branko Ćopić, unequivocally one of the most famous, widely read, and beloved writers of the former Yugoslavia. The untouched, highly rustic landscapes and the traditional rural way of life that Ćopić described so vividly and affectionately in his iconic works have remained almost completely intact here to this very day. Economically, the small local population relies almost exclusively on traditional family agriculture, robust livestock breeding, and, to a minor extent, local forestry in a highly idyllic environment barely touched by modernity.
