Tomislavgrad, historically known as Duvno, is a profoundly historical city situated on the vast and sweeping Duvanjsko Polje plateau in the extreme southwest of the country. The city bears its current name in distinguished honor of the first Croatian King, Tomislav, who, according to enduring legend, was crowned exactly on this plain in the year 925. Today, the region is primarily known for its strong agricultural character, extensive pasturelands, and an enormous global diaspora; many families have relatives working in Western Europe who sustainably support the local economy through consistent investments. The urban center of Tomislavgrad is visually and spiritually dominated by a massive Franciscan basilica, serving as the central cultural and religious hub of the region. Furthermore, the expansive, windswept karstic plateaus offer good conditions for renewable energies, leading to the rapid development of large, highly modern wind farms.
