Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna is Austria's most significant cultural asset and one of the most magnificent Baroque palace complexes in Europe. As the former summer residence of the Habsburgs, the palace breathes imperial history in each of its 1,441 rooms, 45 of which are open to the public today. Empress Maria Theresa, in particular, significantly shaped the appearance of the site in the 18th century. The vast palace park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, houses architectural jewels such as the Gloriette on the hill, offering a spectacular view over Vienna, as well as artistic fountains and statues. Another highlight on the grounds is the Schönbrunn Zoo, founded in 1752 and considered the oldest continuously operating zoo in the world. The palace is not only a museum but also a place of living tradition, for example through the annual Summer Night Concerts by the Vienna Philharmonic. The characteristic golden-yellow facade, known as 'Schönbrunn Yellow,' is today a trademark of the city. Visitors can experience the splendor of past centuries in the magnificent halls and admire the symmetry of Baroque landscape architecture in the extensive gardens. Schönbrunn attracts millions of guests every year and remains an indispensable symbol of Austrian identity.
