Gänserndorf is located in the heart of the Marchfeld region in Lower Austria and functions as a vital regional hub. The town was first documented in 1115 under the name 'Genstorf'. A major turning point in its history occurred in 1838 with the opening of the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway, which connected the town to the rail network and spurred rapid urban growth. The city is known for its cultural vibrancy and serves as a center for various educational and administrative institutions. A prominent landmark is the Parish Church of the Holy Guardian Angels, located in the town center. For decades, Gänserndorf was famously known as the 'Safari City' due to its popular safari park, and this heritage is still commemorated by animal sculptures throughout the town. Today, the community benefits from its situation in the agriculturally productive Marchfeld and its proximity to Vienna. As a district capital, Gänserndorf provides essential infrastructure and services to the surrounding rural areas.
