Albertina (Austria)

Weather…

The Albertina in the heart of Vienna is a significant art museum and one of the largest former residential palaces of the Habsburgs. The collection was founded in 1776 by Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen, the son-in-law of Empress Maria Theresa. The museum houses one of the world's most important graphic collections, featuring over one million prints and approximately 65,000 drawings, including world-famous masterpieces such as Albrecht Dürer's 'Young Hare' and his 'Praying Hands.' Since 2007, the Albertina has also showcased the permanent Batliner Collection, one of Europe's most significant private collections of Classical Modernism, encompassing works from Monet and Picasso to Baselitz. An architectural highlight is the magnificent Habsburg State Rooms, restored in Neoclassical style, which offer a glimpse into 19th-century courtly life. The prominent Albrechtsbrunnen fountain in front of the building and the modern canopy roof designed by architect Hans Hollein symbolize the union of tradition and modernity. Today, the Albertina is a central venue for international temporary exhibitions of the highest caliber.
